CANADA INFRASTRUCTURE BANK (CIB): INFORMATION WEBINAR ON BUILDING RETROFITS FOR NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

NLCA members are invited to a free information session where the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) will present its Building Retrofits Initiative (BRI) and the potential to put in place aggregators responsible to deliver building retrofits in NL. 

The CIB’s Building Retrofits Initiative invests in the decarbonization of building and provides attractive financing to reduce investment barriers and drive carbon savings. 


FURTHER BACKGROUND 

  • Inefficient energy use in buildings is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Energy-efficient buildings significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and owner operating expenses, contributing to Canada’s transition to a low-carbon future.
  • The CIB works with private and public sector real estate owners and other market participants to modernize and improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings.
  • The CIB BRI initiative will help to finance capital costs of retrofits, using savings from energy savings, efficiencies and operating cost savings for repayment. 
  • The Webinar will present the CIB BRI initiative
  • The Webinar also intends to explore and discuss options for a “Made in NL” building retrofits solution. This could potentially be done by putting in place aggregator(s) that would allow to deliver the building retrofits mainly by NL contractors where a material portion of the financing requirements could be provided by the CIB.
